Judging is the ability we have as humans to discern between right and wrong, good and bad, supportive and harmful, preferable and undesirable, etc.  Judging allows us to make moral claims as well as develop personal opinions.  We must judge; it allows us to make sense of our world and keep ourselves safe within it.  By judging in the Truth (discerning), we become empowered and connected with ourselves, others, and God or our Higher Power.

Judging is seen by many as negative or harmful, however this is not case.  On the other hand, the shame-based counterpart of judging, which is called being judgmental, is extraordinarily damaging.  Being judgmental causes invalidation, bickering, shaming, divisions, strife, and ultimately disconnection.
