The denial strategy of comparing means giving myself permission to contrast or shift attention from myself to something else or someone else, giving license or concession to what I want to believe, or do, or feel, etc., in order to condone my behavior.  In other words, I make value judgments about myself, other people and experiences based on how I perceive I (or they) “are” in comparison to myself, others or some other experience.  I do not appreciate or “see” the innate value of the person or thing—only the differences and similarities to something or someone else.
