The denial strategy of complying means giving the appearance of being willing to do what is expected of me, without sincerely agreeing or committing within myself.  I do what others expect of me, “to get them off my back” or because I “have to.”  I do not keep my commitments rigorously.  Therefore, I lie to those around me, saying that I am going to change, but I never do. I repeatedly re-commit, but go through similar motions of lip service without behavioral change or sincere-heart commitment. This is a cycle that I engage in so that I never have to face the reality of my situation or be responsible for myself.
