Principle of Recovery: Powerlessness

When any of us forms an addictive or co-dependent attachment with any person, thing, attitude, idea, or other “external,” we lose our ability to manage the presence of that item in our life—we become powerless over it.  The principle of powerlessness is one of humility; by recognizing that I am powerless over alcohol, or drugs, or whatever my “drug of choice” happens to be, I open myself to asking for help, support and validation from others.
