Emotional risk is the act of being vulnerable, of being willing to give to another person.  Giving empathy requires genuine connection to the person’s emotions; it also requires validation, or a willingness to be emotionally vulnerable—to risk your own emotional comfort for the person’s sake.  Healthy risk is vitally important in our relationships.  To risk in healthy ways, you must create boundaries around yourself regarding the behaviors and attitudes you will and will not permit around yourself and in the intimate areas of your life.  By creating and holding boundaries, you will be able to risk appropriately and in healthy ways, which will enable you to create intimate and deep relationships.
