Selfishness is based on shame and fear.  Fear that my needs and wants won’t be met, and therefore I need to “make” others meet them for me.  Selfishness takes no responsibility for self, and exploits, uses and manipulates others into doing for me what I ought to do for myself.  When I am selfish, my “world” shrinks until I see only myself, and I feel victimized by my circumstances, other people, etc.  A worldview of selfishness will entice me to blame others for all of my discomforts and problems, and I will quickly become disconnected from myself, others, and my God or Higher Power.
