Slips

“Slipping” means you have established clear, concrete and measurable bottom lines, and you are consciously or unconsciously choosing to go through them, and move towards your drug of choice.  It is vitally important to track your slips so you can become aware of when, why and how you choose to break your commitments and step through your bottom lines.  If you do not become aware that you are slipping, you will approach your drug of choice, you will access it, and you will relapse.  Being conscious of slips is a powerful tool to “wake up” and become aware and conscious before you relapse.  “Backing out” of a slip would look like calling a sponsor or accountability partner (accounting to someone and receiving validation), moving away from the physical location of your drug, and becoming honest and responsible to keep your bottom lines once more.
