Control
We are not in control of much in our lives. We cannot control our health, our life/death, even our heartbeat or breath. And we certainly cannot control anything outside of ourselves, such as our environment, other people, circumstances, events, outcomes, and so forth.
However, the propensity to attempt to control is a human characteristic. When we fear, or when we are uncomfortable, we are prone to use control to manipulate 1) our own perceptions and 2) our external world (relationships, events, etc.) so that we feel more comfortable, safe, and so forth. When we attempt to control anything that is outside of our ability to manage, we immediately disconnect from ourselves spiritually & emotionally, and we enter into denial in order to hide the disconnect from self and others.
